Hard to believe it’s been 5 years since an animated Miles Morales became Spider-Man and went Into The Spider-Verse. Now we’re just days away from its sequel Spider-Man: Across the Spider-Verse, and there’s a rumor that a fan-favorite Spider-Man might be making an appearance in the film.
Josh Keaton, a voice actor who’s portrayed the Web Slinger in countless iterations over the years, from The Spectacular Spider-Man animated show to various video games, including a deep cut: Marvel vs. Capcom 3: Fate of Two Worlds, could be appearing in the new movie.
Keaton took to Twitter to tease a potential cameo. He posted that he was “gonna watch a movie tonight” in front of the movie poster. Someone responded: “Don’t act like you don’t know.” He said he recorded some lines but wasn’t sure if they were going to use them.
Of course, people who know Keaton, love Keaton. “Just know that your interpretation of the character is forever iconic, and my personal voice which I read most spidey comics with,” one person commented.
“Just to know you recorded some lines is definitely spectacular news! Hopefully, it made the final cut. Either way, it’ll be great to see the Spectacular Spider-Man on screen again, even if it’s for just a few seconds,” someone else responded.
Realizing the waves he had just made, Keaton tweeted again a short time later to “temper” the excitement.
Regardless if he makes it into the final cut or not, just his inclusion shows how much cache producers gave to all versions of Spider-Man, and not just the popular ones. In fact, Keaton got to hang out with another well-known Spider-Man voice at the premiere of the movie.
Fun! Spider-Man: Across the Spider-Verse swings into theaters on June 2.
