Last night, Avengers: Endgame finally had its world premiere in Los Angeles, prompting a flood of glowing responses on Twitter.
Among the film’s first viewers was Aaron Couch from The Hollywood Reporter, who shared some good news for spoilerphobic Marvel fans everywhere. Apparently, about 90% of the footage that’s been officially released from the Avengers: Infinity War sequel was taken from the first 15 minutes of the flick.
This claim falls very much in line with comments made by Marvel Studios head Kevin Feige earlier this year at the Golden Globes. When MTV News asked if the film’s marketing would mostly use footage from the feature’s first 15-20 minutes, the producer described the speculation as “somewhat accurate.” After several months’ worth of trailers and TV spots, it seems that the Feige has stayed true to his word.
While the measure of taking footage from the first 15 minutes was presumably intended to avoid spoilers, Couch’s recent revelation actually tells us a little bit about what to expect from this week’s release. For one thing, it now feels safe to assume that the clip of Earth’s Mightiest Heroes plotting to steal Thanos’ Infinity Stones features very early in the film. And since this is a three-hour movie we’re talking about, we wouldn’t bet on their mission being an unqualified success.
Another point worth thinking about is that the promotional footage has featured scenes of Tony Stark stuck in space and back on Earth. So, does that mean Iron Man gets home in the first 15 minutes? Are the scenes of Tony on Earth part of the 10% from later in the film? Have the trailers been using fake footage? We’ll find out when Avengers: Endgame hits theaters on April 26th.
