News on Rob Marshall‘s remake of the film noir 1934 classic The Thin Man has been trickling out slowly but surely ever since the announcement that the Pirates Of The Caribbean: On Stranger Tides director would reunite with Johnny Depp for the film.
We learnt last year that Rachel Weisz was the top choice for the female lead and that she’d be playing the wife of Depp’s character Nick Charles, Nora. Now, Deadline is telling us that Weisz is not confirmed and that starting next week, Marshall will begin meetings with eight actresses. The actresses that are reportedly in line for the part are Eva Green, Amy Adams, Emma Stone, Carey Mulligan, Rachel Weisz, Kristen Wiig, Emily Blunt and Isla Fisher.
Personally, Blunt would be my first chose but I’d be happy with any of them really except Fisher or Wiig, who seem very odd choices for the role. Aside from the eight actresses mentioned, I could also see Jessica Chastain or Olivia Wilde fitting into the part quite nicely.
The role is an in demand one as the project will surely be high profile. Not only do you have Marshall and Depp headlining it, but the original The Thin Man is considered a classic by many. Plus, the couple in the film, that will be played here by Depp and one of the aforementioned leading ladies, is one of the most beloved on screen couples in cinema history. Both Depp and his female co-star will have big shoes to fill.
Depp is currently finishing up The Lone Ranger but it’s a good guess that The Thin Man will go into production once he’s done. We’ll keep you updated when we hear more casting news.
