4) Clueless
You’ve probably already seen this film, but there’s no reason not to watch it again.
Alicia Silverstone is Cher, the original Valley Girl, trying her darnedest to foster romance between friends and teachers alike while steadfastly ignoring the nice guy in her life. She might not be very bright, but she’s sweet and her heart’s in the right place, even to the detriment of her own relationships.
Clueless is fun for some 90s fashions, yes, but even more so for the depiction of female friendships. Cher is a decent person who wants the best she can do for her friends, and her friends don’t always live up to her standards. But they try, and that’s what’s nice about this film: the friendships wax and wane, but they’re ultimately about teenagers becoming adults who support one another.
