The Merging Of Mutants – X-Men Days Of Future Past
Yes, it should be noted that the X-Men films seem to go off the rails really easily. The first three entries are a perfect example of this. They started out awesome and got worse and worse. So. what did the producers do? They rebooted the series by taking us back to the genesis of the whole mutant movement. The reboot was a lot of fun and breathed some nice new blood into the franchise (which, frankly, died in part three). So, when I first heard they would be joining the two casts for a new movie that played off the Days Of Future Past comic book, I geeked out a little.
But outside of just theory, what could have been a huge mess really ended up working quite well. They knew which mutants to keep in forefront and which to keep in the background. They introduced some characters for fanboys to go nuts over (Bishop!) and somehow, they made the whole stew taste delicious. Granted, I still don’t think it worked as well as the story did in the comics, but what a way to gap the last series that fell off and the new series, which is still just finding itself.
