5 Questions That Paranormal Activity: The Ghost Dimension Left Unanswered

The Paranormal Activity franchise, one of this generation's longest-running horror narratives, has come to a close with the release of Paranormal Activity: The Ghost Dimension - a final chapter that Jason Blum assured would answer all our burning questions. Does it?

What Does Katie Do Now?

Katie was the one to start the activity, yet is completely disregarded come The Ghost Dimension sans her name being mentioned as the (fake) real estate agent that sold Ryan’s family their doomed house. She found her way into all the other films, even The Marked Ones (as mentioned before), so it almost feels cheap that she’s not the one to end The Ghost Dimension. Blumhouse promised all our questions would be answered with this franchise finisher, but they left the most obvious of all queries wide opened – where is Katie herself? Her appearance would have brought things a little more full-circle, yet we only get her young form from the videos. So what, her job is finished once Toby gets his new house?

This is the amount of disrespect The Ghost Dimension has for its fans. Plotkin’s team had duties in tying everything together, with Katie’s inclusion being almost paramount to all happenings. Her absence, and the absence of that army of witches, is just a mark of laziness – further evidence that a near-sighted focus on Toby overtook all story aspects. Even a happy reuniting of Katie and a now-personified Toby would have made more sense, proving to Katie that the greater good was serviced. Hell, have them embrace and turn The Ghost Dimension into a damn romantic comedy, where it’s revealed that Toby wanted to become human because of his burning love for Katie (can’t blame him) – honestly, that narrative would have made more sense than the ending we received.

Alas, we’re left with nothing but a human Toby, lingering questions, and a lame-duck final-quel that does nothing but slight fans with each predictable jump scare. Thanks, Paranormal Activity: The Ghost Dimension.
