5 Movie Sequels That We’re Dreading This Year

As we begin a new year, it's important to start on a positive note, adopting an optimistic outlook on the movies that will be released over the coming twelve months. In an industry now dominated by sequels and franchises, it's exciting to note that many of these upcoming films actually have the potential to be awesome. The trailer for Avengers: Age of Ultron alone has excited fanboys more than the leaked nude pics of Jennifer Lawrence, and we also have new installments of the Hunger Games, Jurassic Park and Star Wars franchises to salivate over.

BEST EXOTIC MARIGOLD HOTEL 2 film still

The Best Exotic Marigold Hotel was a surprise smash, winning audiences over with its sweet story of British pensioners moving to a retirement hotel in India. As delightful as The Best Exotic Marigold Hotel was, it’s not exactly the type of film that begs to be continued in sequel form, yet money is king in the movie industry, so say hello to The Second Best Exotic Marigold Hotel.

Second best will surely be an apt description, as screenwriter Ol Parker struggles to stretch out the story into another full length feature. This time, hotel owner Sonny Kapoor plans to expand his business, opening a second hotel, but this is proving problematic due to his imminent marriage. Meanwhile, the British pensioners continue to navigate their lives in India, taking on new work roles and new relationships which presumably throw up a number of amusing, but heart-warming hijinks for the group.

Newcomers include the Academy Award nominated actor David Strathairn and Richard Gere, who’s appeared in little of note for the past few years. While fans of the first film will undoubtedly find things to enjoy in The Second Best Exotic Marigold Hotel, the entire venture screams of desperation for everyone involved. Be sure to look out for this one in the bargain bins this time next year. On the plus side, it’ll make buying presents for your grandparents a piece of cake in 2015.

Silver linings people.
