“It’s a trap!”
Fans may well think they have a lock on what to expect from Episode VII, but proceed with caution. There is little actually confirmed among the rumours…
- ‘Episode VII will be focused on Luke, Leia and Han’: We’ve heard from a few sources that the focus of the story will be on the protagonists from the original trilogy, but there’s yet to be any confirmation that’s actually the case, or that they’re even heavily involved beyond The Force Awakens.
- ‘There will be twins’: Once the casting sheets leaked, many assumed that there was a new set of twins, presumably belonging to Han and Leia, who would be a major part of the film. Well of the cast we’ve heard of so far, there’s not a ton to indicate that’s the case. I’m not ruling it out, but it’s certainly not a guarantee. Which brings us to…
- ‘Han and Leia are married’: That was a consensus that the majority of the EU went with, and because of that, there hasn’t really been any dissension among the theories about Episode VII. But we have no firm evidence that those two are even still on speaking terms, let alone raising twins.
- ‘Adam Driver is playing a villain’: People must really loathe Driver, because from the moment he was rumored to be in the film, he was talked about as a villain. Then, once he was actually cast, those rumors just became the accepted fact. We’ve heard nothing and seen nothing to indicate he’s actually an antagonist, so it may be a good thing to cut the guy some slack until we actually see him chopping off someone’s hand.
- ‘Luke is an unmarried teacher’: This one isn’t quite as widely accepted as the previous four, but it’s been assumed by many that the male Skywalker would be stepping into an Obi-Wan role, living on his own until he can have the opportunity to train a new class of Jedi. There’s been nothing solid to confirm that this is the case.
These are just a few examples of the many assumptions that are being accepted as fact without any firm basis. I’m not saying they may not end up being true, but be careful of falling into any traps here.
