5) Did David Truly Create The Aliens?
There’s a few points to consider when thinking about this one. Firstly, the alien eggs that David creates in Alien: Covenant are noticeably larger than those found in the original movies. Secondly, why were there murals of aliens in Prometheus if Xenomorphs hadn’t been created yet? Lastly, the chest-burster in Scott’s latest flick has a ridiculously fast incubation period. It also calmly mimics David and it looks slightly different, too – more formed and evolved – compared to the more embryonic, feral state of the original Alien chest-burster.
Now, perhaps these are simply plot holes and I’m reading too much into them. However, I’m pretty sure that David learns how to splice DNA, dissect Shaw’s body and create the Xenomorph eggs by studying texts on-board the Engineer vessel – it’s somewhat alluded to in a promo teaser leading up to Alien: Covenant’s launch. If this is the case, then maybe David has simply created his own personal strain of Xenomorph. Perhaps I’m completely off the mark with this one, but either way, I really hope a new sequel can help resolve this enigma. There’s undeniably still a ton of mystery and intrigue left shrouding the Alien franchise.
Hopefully, Fox decide to give the go-ahead to an Alien: Covenant sequel so that Scott can finally finish the story that he helped create. After all, it’d be a mighty shame if he doesn’t get the opportunity to complete his fascinating arc with David. If all else fails however, and the follow-up falls through, Fox needs to give Neill Blomkamp a call — we hear that he had some pretty cool ideas for the Alien franchise, too…
