Taken 2’s Olivier Megaton To Direct Action Thriller Taking Gotham

Presumably spurred on by the world's love for all things Batman - and the fact that it contains a word rather similar to that of "Taken" - Olivier Megaton has signed on to direct Taking Gotham, an action thriller written by Blue Bloods producer Thomas Kelly and a rumored budget of $60 million. Just think about how many grenades you could buy with that amount of cash, Olivier - not to mention innocent bystanders to take the brunt of the damage!

Presumably spurred on by the world’s love for all things Batman – and the fact that it contains a word rather similar to that of “Taken” – Olivier Megaton has signed on to direct Taking Gotham, an action thriller written by Blue Bloods producer Thomas Kelly with a rumored budget of $60 million. Just think about how many grenades you could buy with that amount of cash, Olivier – not to mention innocent bystanders to take the brunt of the damage!

Yes, Megaton – who recently had Liam Neeson raging around Istanbul and advising his daughter on how to casually use explosives with no concern for the safety of the locals – will helm a movie set to follow a “secret unit of the NYPD that was created in response to a string of brutal robberies in New York City. After a deadly sting operation, the elite unit is disavowed by the NYPD, forcing them to go deep underground in order to clear their names,” and is therefore nothing to do with Batman at all and you can stop reading now. It is a true story, though, so get a grip.

Megaton’s last film – Taken 2 – emerged a major disappointment, of course, what with its lacking violence and nauseating editing, though we’re prepared to give Megaton another chance, purely because it gave me another chance to write his name. Seriously, if this guy isn’t a Transformer masquerading as a Frenchman, then I’ll be gob-smacked. There we go, Hollywood, another movie idea for you: Robot Frenchman directs action thriller. I’m in the wrong profession.

What do you make of Taking Gotham, then? Excited to see another action movie from Olivier Megaton? Shooting begins in March, whether you like it or not.
