4) Splinter Cell (2017)
From novelist Tom Clancy, the Splinter Cell series feels kind of like playing through a really good action-thriller. Next year, then, New Regency plans to turn it into a really good action thriller, and they’ve signed on the perfect actor to play Sam Fischer.
At least, it’s supposed to come out next year; as fans know, Splinter Cell has been in development for an excruciatingly long period of time. It was originally going to be directed by Doug Liman (The Bourne Identity), but sadly he departed the project last year. Still, attached to play Sam Fisher is Tom Hardy, and producer Jean-Julien Baronnet said that Hardy was picked for basically the same reason Michael Fassbender was picked for Assassin’s Creed: like Fassbender, Hardy is a highly versatile actor who has worked on big blockbusters (The Dark Knight Rises, Mad Max: Fury Road) in addition to smaller dramas (Warrior, Bronson).
“Tom is doing indie movies like Bronson and he’s doing Batman [The Dark Knight Rises] or whatever or Mad Max [Fury Road],” Baronnet said. “So this combination of factors for us was very important because it was a symbol for what we want to do in a movie – which is to do a movie of course that should be mainstream, but with the content we would like to have.”
Though no director has yet signed on to replace Liman, Hardy said the production hopes to begin shooting in 2016 for a 2017 release date.
