Savage City
Riddle me this: which is the most ominous Batman story of the New 52? Scott Snyder and Greg Capullo’s Death of the Family and The Court of Owls are the more popular arcs, but “Savage City,” which formed a part of the Zero Year event, is the most sinister of the lot. It’s one of those stories that change the way you see the characters forever.
For years, the Riddler was seen as a silly villain who hadn’t challenged the Bat quite like his other rogues. Zero Year changed this though. In “Savage City,” Nygma took over Gotham and put the Dark Knight through the wringer in order to save his city. He tested Bats in a way that we’ve never seen before.
The last time we saw the Riddler in a Batman movie, it was in the prelude to disaster known as Batman Forever. Twenty-two years have passed since then, so it’s probably about time that Ed Nygma gets another chance to bring his outlandish riddles to cinema.
