3) The Casting Choices
Quick shoutout to everyone who supported the casting of Ben Affleck as Batman since Day 1 (as not many did). Ever since Heath Ledger’s casting as the Joker back in 2008, internet commenters find themselves constantly critiquing each casting choice for comic book movies. Whether it’s simply habit or true disapproval is unclear, as more people continually hate every major casting choice, regardless of how quality their reasoning is. Many DCEU casting choices have been criticized, yet the internet has continually had to go back on their harsh words.
Gal Gadot was called “too skinny” to be Wonder Woman, yet has completely owned the role since being cast. Jason Mamoa was criticized for not having the bleach blond look of comic Aquaman, but has shown that his Aquaman could make the character a total cinematic badass. Finally, poor Ben Affleck had the most brutal online treatment when he was cast. However, once his Batman was seen by viewers, most were prepared to sing his praises. Jesse Eisenberg, another consistently berated casting choice, provided audiences with a Lex Luthor that’s certainly not for everyone, but to continue the “worst casting ever” comments would be just hyperbole.
WB has provided DC fans the on-screen talent that can properly bring these characters to life like never before. Fans will always dispute the casting of beloved characters, but try and have some faith in WB’s casting department; they seem to be doing pretty well for themselves.
