5) Replay Value
Quick show of hands: who completely understood Flash’s warning to Bruce in BvS on the first watch? Did you also notice on that first viewing how Silas Stone was working out of S.T.A.R Labs when he used the Mother Box to create Cyborg?
The jam-packed nature of BvS may have been a point of contention with more critical viewers, but this allowed the film to have tremendous replay value. Unlike most straightforward movies, viewers had a number of reasons to come back for a second helping. Numerous “Wait, was that what I think it was?” moments are sprinkled into each film, leading to many wishing they had a rewind button in the theater.
Again, Snyder’s mastery of easter eggs helps strengthen this component of the movies as little details hide in the background of scenes. Regardless of your opinion for each of the three outings, you’re still curious to see what hidden teases you missed on that first viewing. Rarely do films offer much of a reason to re-watch them as you feel like you caught everything. With the DCEU movies, there’s ALWAYS something new to discover.
