While Kevin Feige was quick to specify that Zendaya’s ‘MJ’ is absolutely not an adaptation of Mary Jane Watson, it’s been confirmed that the character has similarities in order to remind viewers of the famous dynamic between Parker and Watson. Essentially, this represents the studio writing themselves a blank cheque on the character as it means they can reflect as much of the real MJ as they like but also do totally new and unexpected things with her if they see fit.

Following the end of Spider-Man: Homecoming, fans are likely to be expecting some classic similarities to appear in the sequel.
