Will Orm Be Redeemed?
Patrick Wilson’s Orm takes the role of the main villain of Aquaman. Much like Thor‘s Loki or Black Panther‘s Killmonger before him, he’s a relative of the hero with a thirst for power who believes the throne belongs to him. Over the course of the movie, Orm forces the rest of the seven kingdoms to back him so that he may achieve the title of Ocean Master and start a war with the surface world.
He’s depicted as evil as they come for most of the film, but the chinks in his armor seem to arise when Queen Atlanna returns and pleads for her son to not kill his brother. Orm then seems to understand his mother’s words about peace on some level and lets himself be led away by the Atlantean forces quietly. Even when Vulko gets in a dig at his earlier comment to him – “make sure he has a view” – Orm slightly smiles, as if admitting he’s earned the jibe.
So, will Orm be redeemed in a potential sequel? If we’re comparing him to Loki, then, it would seem so, as Thor: The Dark World has taught us that the next thing to do when your first movie was about feuding siblings battling for the throne is to have them be forced to team up and work together to stop a bigger threat in the follow-up. That could be how it goes here, too, as Arthur and Orm may have to put aside their differences to stop Black Manta.
