3) Ransom
Nothing screams family entertainment like ‘child kidnap drama.’ Directed by Ron Howard and starring the angriest man alive, Mel Gibson, Ransom kicks off with the son of Gibson’s character being kidnapped by a dirty cop, at which point – obviously – Gibbo decides to take the law into his own hands.
And with that, all bets are off. There are crosses and double crosses, bodies and ample shots of Mel Gibson looking sad and/or furious. Ransom is one of Howard’s least friendly movies, a nihilistic cautionary tale that turns into a revenge movie, just so Mel Gibson gets a chance to kill a bunch of people.
