10 Perfect Director/Comic Book Movie Pairings

People often forget how important directors are. When a blockbuster succeeds, the praise of the general public tends to fall on the actors or storyline. Outside of film critic circles, few mentioned director Jon Favreau when the first Iron Man movie took the world by storm, yet people couldn't stop talking about Robert Downey Jr.'s best performance in years.

Wonder Woman
Of all the comic book movie projects that failed to materialize, Joss Whedon’s Wonder Woman is perhaps the most soul destroying. The Avengers may be one of the most successful movies of all-time, but it’s Whedon’s depiction of a vampire hunting cheerleader from Sunnydale that ultimately left the biggest mark on pop culture, leading many to believe he was the perfect person to bring life to the Amazonian Princess.

Buffy was the first genuinely exciting female role model to appear on our screens for the longest time, so when it was revealed that Whedon had begun working on a Wonder Woman movie, the hearts of geeks everywhere exploded. As dream projects go, this one seemed too good to be true and unfortunately, that did turn out to be the case, as Whedon eventually gave up and turned his attention to Marvel.

Sure, we’re all grateful that Whedon directed The Avengers as brilliantly as he did, but the fact that we came so close to uniting the world’s greatest super heroine with the mind behind Buffy The Vampire Slayer will forever remain a sore sticking point for fans of the genre… unless of course, the upcoming Wonder Woman movie kicks as much ass as we pray it does.

Patty Jenkins, if you don’t direct the perfect Wonder Woman movie, then we’re coming for ya! Just saying.
