10 Disney Movies That Actually Need A Live-Action Reboot Or Sequel

Disney are enjoying something of a second renaissance period right now as, with big properties like Marvel and Star Wars in their pocket, they have a guaranteed bunch of hits lined up.

There have already been several different adaptations of the Aladdin story, but none of them follow the lines that the Disney film took. For one, the Genie could be a much darker character, similar to the genie in the classic Thief of Bagdad, with more of the trickster in him. Furthermore, while we could see just a straight live-action adaptation, it would be even more interesting to play a gender-swap and have street urchin Jasmine proving her worth to Prince Aladdin, with the help of a genie in a bottle – or something to that effect. With Disney’s current fervor for turning their princess narratives into feminist fantasies, Aladdin certainly has a lot to offer.

An unexpected side effect of Disney acquiring the Marvel Cinematic Universe is that they can now make their own films based on the company’s properties. Enter Big Hero 6, a Japanese comic turned into a thoroughly enjoyable animated superhero movie. Though it was a perfect standalone, we all know the rule about superhero films, don’t we? They nearly always get a sequel.

Now that Hiro has put his personal tragedy behind him, the superhero rulebook dictates that he has an even bigger threat waiting for him. There are currently plans for a Big Hero 6 TV series in the works, and while we’re certainly excited about that, we would love to see an actual sequel put into production, too.

Basically, we just want more of big cuddly robot Baymax on our screens.
