4) Wolverine Vs. The SWAT Team (X2: X-Men United, 2003)
There are so many things to love about X2: X-Men United, but the scene where Logan goes full-on ballistic on a SWAT team invading Charles Xavier’s school definitely ranks high on the list.
In X-Men we saw Logan flash his claws a few times, but didn’t really get to see Wolverine’s trademark berserker rage until this moment. Logan, left alone to watch over the school, fights to protect the young mutants as hard as he can and kills as many SWAT members as humanly possible, as quickly and as brutally as he can.
What follows are a series of great and memorable Wolverine moments, from Logan pinning a man against a refrigerator and stabbing him with both sets of claws in the chest (leaving six distinct claw marks in the fridge door), cutting a gun in half before slashing the shooter’s face, and leaping off of a balcony to impale two SWAT officers below before tossing their now-dead bodies over his shoulders.
Remarkably, Bryan Singer manages to film the scene in such a way that there’s no blood, effectively keeping the brutality well within the confines of a PG-13 rating. Honestly, it gives me a bit of hope for the upcoming Deadpool film, which may very well have to adhere to the same guidelines.
