Loki Lives
Loki’s death at the beginning of Infinity War hit fans hard as that seemed to be it for the much-loved God of Mischief. After all, with his self-sacrificial act to save his brother, he completed his journey from villain to redeemed hero. Still, fans wouldn’t accept that this was it for Tom Hiddleston in the franchise and, wouldn’t you know it, Endgame proved them right. Not only did we get another cameo from Loki but it also might have resurrected him permanently.
When Iron Man and Ant-Man attempt to fetch the Tesseract from 2012 New York, during the events of The Avengers, their plan hits a snag when the Space Stone gets out of their hands and the captive Loki pinches it instead and escapes. This presumably creates an alternate timeline where The Dark World and Ragnarok happen differently and Loki never redeems himself, which would mean that he’s still alive somewhere out there, up to his old nefarious schemes.
Loki lovers are overjoyed that Endgame threw him a lifeline, though it’s unclear if this plot-thread will be picked up again in the future or if this is more like an extra happier ending for the character. There is the upcoming Loki Disney Plus series, of course, but evidence points to this being a prequel with a voiceover role from Hiddleston. Maybe we’ll see more of this alt-Loki if Thor 4 happens.
