Game Theorist host MatPat has released part four of his Five Nights at Freddy’s timeline, putting together the events from all the games, books, and other existing content within the franchise before the Security Breach DLC and the movie gets released. Unfortunately, not everyone is happy with what he’s come up with.
The final theory titled “A Family REBUILT” told the story of what could have happened between the end of Freddy Fazbear’s Pizzeria Simulator and Five Nights at Freddy’s Security Breach. According to the YouTuber, he believes that William Afton’s ex-wife was the one behind the creation of Freddy Fazbear’s Mega Pizzaplex and the one running the Fazbear Entertainment LLC.
Her motive is to put the family back together after the multiple deaths that occurred. This meant that she was the one who made Vanessa become influenced by William, was the one who created the “robot version of crying child,” and was making all the corporate decisions like building the Pizzaplex on the grounds of the burned down old and haunted pizzerias.
Unfortunately, not everyone was happy with Matpat’s newest theory. While a majority of those in the YouTube comments showed support, even when the YouTuber claimed that the theory isn’t perfect, it didn’t stop some on Twitter and Reddit from criticizing him.
Some criticisms made sense, like people questioning the inconsistency of the characters’ ages. Especially since Security Breach takes place 30+ years in the future. One pointed out that Elizabeth Afton (the daughter) should be in her 50s, not her-mid 20s as MatPat predicted. One also argued that there is no way that Mrs. Afton is the one behind the events post-Pizzarea Simulator since she’s not an engineer and that there is no way she should redo William’s work in a matter of months.
Meanwhile, others are mad because of the YouTuber himself. Due to his immense following and influence, some claimed that fans might take his theory as fact, which makes it harder to discuss the game. Meanwhile, others believe that the conclusions MatPat has came up with are more than just “fan fiction” rather than an actual theory.
What’s interesting is that the YouTube channel is called “Game Theory,” and is a channel where he theorizes about games and tries to form coherent theories based on lore that’s scattered around. However, fans argue that what MatPat presents sounds like it’s fact, hence why the YouTuber has received so much backlash. Not to mention, MatPat warned about “how controversial” the finale would be in his previous episode, knowing that not everyone is going to agree with him.
MatPat has been making Five Nights At Freddy’s theory videos since 2014, the same year that the first game was released. Since then, he’s released 60 videos talking about the game, trying to piece together the events and lore surrounding the game using information from other official sources and collaborating with other FNAF theorists.
Whether you agree with him or not, just note that everything he’s produced are just theories and would only be confirmed if Scott Cawthon or anyone working on the games confirms it.
