In accordance with previous reports, Microsoft Studios has today confirmed that Remedy’s time-shifting, third-person shooter Quantum Break has been delayed into 2016.
Previously tethered with a nebulous 2015 release window, that lack of updates from both parties led many to question whether the Xbox One exclusive would make its original due date. However, we know now that this isn’t to be, and Microsoft Studios released the following statement explaining the postponement.
“With so many Xbox One games launching this year, moving Quantum Break to 2016 extends our incredible portfolio into next year with a monster new IP,” said Shannon Loftis, Head of Publishing at Microsoft Studios.
“We’re really proud to be part of the incredible Xbox One line-up,” said Sam Lake, Creative Director at Remedy. “We thank our fans for their patience, and want them to know that the team is taking advantage of this opportunity to polish and fine tune the game to create the kind of standout entertainment experience they’ve come to expect from us.”
Quantum Break is taking a leaf out of Defiance‘s book in blurring the line between the video game medium and television. It’s unclear exactly how Remedy will release content across both platforms, though the company has outlined some pretty ambitious plans that will see the events that occur in-game have ramifications in the live-action show.
From what we’ve seen of the game so far, there’s certainly reasoned to be excited. In it, you play as Jack Joyce, an everyday hero that goes up against the devious corporation, Monarch Solutions. Mixing time-warping gameplay and a narrative that transcends mediums, Quantum Break has the ingredients to be an unusual hit for Microsoft, but it remains to be seen whether it can avoid the pitfalls of Defiance when it releases in 2016.
