We already know that Sony doesn’t plan on revealing anything this year in the way of new consoles, but it seems Microsoft is seriously, absolutely, positively not announcing a new console at all this year, or so they say.
Cedrick Delmax, the Marketing Director for Microsoft France said in an interview with Le Point that the Xbox 360 still has plenty of fight left in it, and doesn’t forsee any sort of announcement regarding a new console, or even a price drop.
Xbox 360′s cycle is not at all finished. The proof is that we don’t see the logic in cutting the price this year. E3 is still premature. What’s certain is that there’ll be nothing new in 2012.
Also this:
We’re always thinking about what is next and how we can push the boundaries of technology, as we did with Kinect. We believe the key to extending the lifespan of a console is not just about the console hardware, but about the games and entertainment experiences being delivered to consumers. We have made no announcements regarding a next generation console and do not comment on rumors or speculation.
So it seems Nintendo will be the only ones out the gate this year, if they can manage to get the Wii U figured out in the next 11 months.
Rumors have been swirling lately about a new Xbox beginning production at the end of this year. Rumors include the idea that the graphics would be similar to the special effects in that of the movie Avatar, the console as a whole would be six times more powerful, and the console won’t be able to play used games. Although, these are all unconfirmed rumors, so I wouldn’t look too far into this.
What say you, gamers? When do you think we’ll see the “NextBox?”
