Avatar: The Last Airbender is finally getting a new tie-in game after nine years. Yes, Avatar: The Last Airbender: Quest for Balance (a mouthful of a title that’s probably meant to keep you from confusing it with the other Avatar) is coming from developer Bamtag Games and publisher Game Mill Entertainment to keep fans fed.
The game is the first for the franchise since The Legend of Korra dropped in 2014. That game is no longer available to buy on any legitimate platform and has been missing from stores since 2017. Other tie-in games were released during Avatar: The Last Airbender‘s first run, so it’s been quite a while since the world has been explored in that medium.
What’s the plot of Avatar: The Last Airbender: Quest for Balance?
If you’re familiar with the plot of Avatar: The Last Airbender, then you’ll probably be familiar with Quest for Balance‘s plot. The game is set to bring audiences back to the story of Aang with a straightforward-seeming adaptation of the cartoon. The game’s trailer showcases some of the game’s 18 levels, which are modeled after episodes from the show.
The game is set to be an action-adventure game, and players will be able to play as one of nine different characters (Aang, Katara, Sokka, and Toph are all confirmed). While not confirmed, it’s also likely that Zuko will be one of these characters, given his presence in the trailer and his enormous popularity in the fanbase. Players will make use of the four elements (water, earth, fire, and air) to solve puzzles and make their way through different levels, where they’ll encounter villains from the series, such as Azula and Fire Lord Ozai.
What platforms will Avatar: The Last Airbender: Quest for Balance be on?
Luckily, Quest for Balance appears to be widely available on all major platforms. That’s right – the game will be available on PC, Nintendo Switch, PS4, PS5, Xbox One, and Xbox Series X|S, so practically anyone can play. That’s definitely a major step up from where the franchise is now – if you wanted to play any of the older games, you’d need to buy secondhand, and you’d need an increasingly-rare older-gen console to run it.
When will Avatar: The Last Airbender: Quest for Balance be out?
Right now, Quest for Balance‘s release date doesn’t seem to be set in stone. The initial announcement only mentions a release date sometime in the Fall, with no other indication of what month that might be in. The game might be pretty close to being done, however. News about the game leaked last year, and rumors had circulated that the game was pretty far along in development by that point.
Avatar: The Last Airbender: Quest for Balance certainly looks like an interesting adaptation. While its graphics are somewhat disappointing, it is a hopeful sign for the franchise that it’s been receiving so much new content. With a new film on the way, a live-action adaptation premiering in 2024, and a reported animated series coming as well, it’s safe to say we’re living in an Avatar renaissance.
