After a brief tease earlier this month, Contrast developer Compulsion Games has officially unveiled their follow-up, We Happy Few. Although platform details are currently unknown for the title, we do know that it will make an appearance at PAX East 2015 next week.
Taking place in the city of Wellington Wells, a place where every citizen walks around with a permanent smile, not much is currently known about We Happy Few. From the teaser, which reminds me of the world of the original BioShock in some regards, we can tell that something sinister is afoot.
A brief plot description on the game’s official site offers a few additional details:
We Happy Few is the tale of a plucky bunch of moderately terrible people trying to escape from a lifetime of cheerful denial. Set in a drug-fuelled, retrofuturistic city in an alternative 1960s England, you’ll have to blend in with its other inhabitants, who don’t take kindly to people who don’t abide by their not-so-normal rules.
I’m not gonna lie to you and say that I was a huge fan of Contrast. Much like our official review, I thought the potential was there, but the execution was completely off. However, based off this brief glimpse alone, consider my interest piqued in We Happy Few. I’m always intrigued by slightly off-kilter worlds, and Wellington Wells certainly fits that description.
