Expansion is a word that – in video games at least – is thrown around far too hastily when referring to additional content. Case in point: Destiny. Bungie’s triple-A MMO/FPS hybrid has, since its release last year, received two so-called expansions – The Dark Below and the House Of Wolves. Now though, the developer has announced The Taken King – an expansion that’s going to contain a hell of a lot more content than either of the DLC packages that came before it.
Of course, we’re not saying that either offering so far hasn’t been correct in being branded as expansive, but The Taken King is taking the term to a whole new level. In fact, it wouldn’t be a bad idea to call The Taken King a mega-expansion.
Chief among the new features are something that all Destiny fans have been waiting to see since day one. Yes, that third empty class slot is finally going to be occupied. Bungie’s own descriptions of each new skill-set are below.
Incendiary siege engines of war, Sunbreaker Titans hammer and shatter their enemies ranks from afar raining cleansing fire down upon fortified defensive positions.
Stormcallers directly manipulate Arc energy, focusing body and mind to channel and chain the lightning. Their enemies are given fair warning – flee from battle, or face the storm.
All Hunters master the frontier, but none claim territory quite like a Nighstalker. Shadowshot binding may seem more merciful than gun or blade… until the feeding frenzy begins.
Along with those, fans can expect new strikes, PvP maps and new story missions.
