If you like the idea of hard-pressed units of elite Space Marines taking on hordes of giant predatory insectoids, then you are in for a real treat. Games Workshop has created everything a player needs to enjoy a ferocious tabletop battle between the Marines and their Tyranid enemy and placed it inside a single box. The release is to commemorate the 10th edition of Warhammer 40,000.

Players will receive 72 gorgeously detailed figures (25 space marines and 47 Tyranids). The defenders of humanity include a Captain in Terminator armor, a rocket-launching Ballistus Dreadnought, and even an Infernus Squad sporting some nasty-looking flamethrowers.

On the Xenos side, the Tyranids have figures ranging from a deadly Neurotyrant, able to liquefy the minds of its prey, to a squad of Barbgaunts — parasitic lifeforms that act as living artillery cannons.

Apart from the figures, the box also contains an exquisite 392-page hardback rulebook detailing the special Leviathan Campaign and featuring detailed artwork from the series. Players also receive a set of 66 play-tested mission cards in varying degrees of difficulty. This means that new players will have easier options until they build experience, while veteran players can jump right into the most challenging scenarios.

The Leviathan box will be a great purchase for new players looking to break into the brutal world of Warhammer 40,000. Games Workshop has scheduled the box to release this summer. Price details are sketchy. At the latest Warhammer Fest, it was revealed that Leviathan will cost “less than the Horus Heresy box set and more than the last Warhammer 40,000 launch box.” Expect a price tag of around $250.
