A sweeping adventure, a long-lost artifact, two mismatched treasure hunters – sound familiar? For fans of Naughty Dog’s flagship Uncharted series, it should, though the developer is ready to tinker with its winning formula with the release of standalone expansion, Uncharted: The Lost Legacy.
Welcoming Chloe Frazer and Nadine Ross into the spotlight, the DLC is pitched as a spinoff from Uncharted 4 that takes place some six months after Nathan Drake’s final adventure (more on that later) and following Game Informer’s grand reveal late last week, PlayStation Blog has now unearthed a series of character images for the forthcoming expansion. Embedded above, there’s also confirmation that Usman Ally, the Obie award-winning actor who recently appeared in Netflix’s A Series of Unfortunate Events, is attached to the part of Asav, the malevolent villain set to put Nadine and Chloe through their paces.
Set deep within the rolling hills of India’s Western Ghats mountain range, Uncharted: The Lost Legacy is very much designed to be Nadine and Chloe’s adventure, and therefore has no room for a Nathan Drake cameo. Writer Josh Scherr explained as much via PS Blog, stating that:
“We entertained a few possible ideas around including Nate as a secondary character. But everything we did felt superfluous because we tied it all up with Uncharted 4.”
Game director Kurt Margenau added: “We’re not going to touch on Nathan Drake in this, at all,” reminding us all that A Thief’s End really was the end for Nolan North’s swashbuckling treasure hunter.
The Lost Legacy also heralds a slight change in level design, too, after Margenau went on to reveal that Uncharted fans can expect a slightly more open experience compared to the core series.
“There are entire combat setups that you can skip, go around, or approach from any direction. It’s got a bigger, more organic feel, with more player choice and more stealth options.”
Uncharted: The Lost Legacy is still without a concrete release date at the time of writing, but we fully expect Naughty Dog to announce its release plans in the coming weeks. Until then, you’ll be able to take a closer look at Nadine and Chloe’s Indian adventure via the extended gameplay demo down below.
