Amy Hennig, the talented writer and director of the Uncharted series, has left Naughty Dog. The University Of California Berkley graduate had been at the studio since the early 2000s and was most recently working on Uncharted 4.
While Hennig has yet to issue a statement on her departure, a representative from Sony offered up the following:
“We can confirm that Amy Hennig has left Naughty Dog. Amy has made significant contributions to the game industry and we appreciate all she has done for Naughty Dog. The development timeline of Uncharted will not be impacted.”
According to unconfirmed sources speaking to IGN, Hennig may have been forced out by The Last Of Us‘ Neill Druckmann and Bruce Staley, who will now take over development duties on Uncharted 4.
No matter which way you look at this, it is upsetting news. Hennig was the creative force behind the Uncharted titles, which were some of the best games of the past console generation, and her work on the series will sorely be missed. Hopefully she gets back on her feet and finds another suitable position soon enough.
