Despite a few rumors, and a Best Buy pre-order card, neither Activision or Nintendo has said one word on if there will be a Wii U version of Call of Duty: Black Ops 2 when the game launches this November. While we still don’t have an official confirmation, the Nintendo faithful got a bit of good news today when a Treyarch employee resume mentioning the unannounced Wii U version turned up online.
The LinkedIn profile of Treyarch employee Randall Herman claims that he was a “QA tester for Call of Duty: Black Ops 2“, and that his duties included “QA testing on PS3 and Wii U, multiplayer testing while collaborating with team, ad hoc testing, and regression.”
This doesn’t make it official, but video game industry employees have a long history of spilling company secrets on their online resumes, so it’s hard to see this as anything but a positive sign for Black Ops 2 Wii U.
Activision has supported the Wii with every version of Call of Duty, except for Modern Warfare 2, and all of them sold fairly well on Nintendo’s system (in particular, the original Black Ops had a huge multiplayer following on the Wii). All things considered, they were solid ports that ran incredibly well, were updated with patches, and featured IR pointer controls that (when mastered) put dual analog to shame. Given that history, I can’t imagine a situation where suddenly Treyarch and Activision are going to choose not to support Nintendo’s HD console, where the porting duties would seemingly be even easier.
If I had to guess, and this is just speculation on my part, I would say that Activision has some deal with Nintendo where they can’t announce Black Ops 2 for the Wii U until The Big N is ready to reveal all the launch details for the upcoming console.
