We Got This Covered’s Indie Game Of The Year

For most gamers, 2016’s calendar will be remembered best for an array of AAA titles. The likes of Uncharted 4, and more recently The Last Guardian and Final Fantasy XV are just a few landmark games that have punctuated a solid year for the industry. In fact, almost every month brought with it new television commercials or billboard advertisement touting the latest release.

There are few games that so effectively use aesthetic to construct an abstract and compelling in the way that INSIDE does. This a game that drips with atmosphere, oozes with a palpable tension and in turn, creates a sense of vulnerability that will totally absorb you.

That, in itself, would be enough to pique most gamer’s interest, but INSIDE goes even further. Developer Playdead has produced a fitting follow-up to LIMBO, with another example of stellar puzzle platforming game design. INSIDE just feels perfect to play, with every section of its 5 or so hour entirety feeling utterly deliberate and handcrafted.

The very best games are distinguished by their ability to accomplished across several different aspects of their design, and that is exactly why INSIDE wins our Indie GOTY award. From the first time that you narrowly avoid the snapping jaws of a guard dog, to the many “Aha!” moments in solving its puzzles, INSIDE balances haunting and terrifying tense experiences with thought provoking game design.

Sublime gameplay achieved through wonderful design, an intoxicating atmosphere in its brilliant art direction, and a mysterious narrative truly inspires wonder without ever uttering a word, INSIDE is an unmissable video gaming experience.
