Gamescom has brought us a plethora of announcements and news this week, but today it got a little ‘ghostlier’ as Ubisoft announced the public beta for Tom Clancy’s Ghost Recon Online.

Tom Clancy’s Ghost Recon Online  is the obvious successor to the long line of successful series focussed on tactical, high-tech, squad-based shooters set in the very-near future. This will be a free-to-play endeavour, which means you will only have to pony up cash to upgrade your weapons, gear, and whatnot.

Despite being saddled with ‘beta’ nomenclature, it’s almost as if this game is in the final stages of its release. Sure, it has hiccups, but you can rest assured that the development team at Ubisoft will be constantly patching, updating, and balancing the game throughout the beta.

Look at it this way: You’re doing yourself a favour by playing a free game, not to mention the invaluable service you will be providing to the developers.

Those of you who are waiting for Tom Clancy’s Ghost Recon Online on Wii U need not fret as Ubisoft is hard at work on that release as well. But in the meantime, check out the announcement trailer below and then head on over to the official website to sign up for the beta.

You may as well get ahead of the game now so you can be dominant in the future.
