Titanfall 2 won’t be available on EA’s Origin/EA Access prior to release, developer Respawn Entertainment has confirmed to GameReactor. The subscription service, which allows members to play upcoming titles published by EA for free prior to general release, has big name games like Mirror’s Edge Catalyst and Unravel offered in the past, so we’re not quite sure why one of the company’s biggest releases of 2016 isn’t being given the same treatment.
Neither EA or Respawn have given an explanation for the decision, having simply added in the notice “excludes Titanfall 2,” to the FAQ section of the site. Besides the above, discounts on all digital purchases, as well as access to The Vault are included with a subscription, the latter offering free reign of all games included without any play or time restrictions.
The revelation is disappointment, to be sure, but luckily, Respawn has already given Titanfall 2 fans multiple chances to try out the futuristic shooter ahead of release next month. Two open beta weekends offering a first-look at two of the game’s six titans, as well as a handful of maps and weapons have garnered mixed receptions from fans, although Respawn has already been making several tweaks under the hood after taking the feedback into account.
Titanfall 2 releases for Xbox One, PlayStation 4 and PC on October 28, and faces stiff competition from both Battlefield 1 and Call of Duty: Infinite Warfare.
