Throughout its existence, the Final Fantasy series has undergone quite a few changes and mutations. From turn-based role playing to strategy conflicts and even massively multiplayer experiences, we’ve done a lot in the series’ gigantic world. Though one thing we’ve yet to do is complete battles by tapping the screen along to prompts. However, that is set to change with the announcement of Theatrhythm Final Fantasy – a rhythm game for the Nintendo 3DS.
Despite featuring some of the major aspects that fans love about the series, including towns and dungeons, this new take on one of gaming’s eldest statesmen will be a new experience. Battles will be conducted via the use of the touchscreen, asking gamers to tap along with on-screen icons (or prompts).
Though further details are quite scarce at this moment, Japanese magazine Jump (translated by Andriasang) has confirmed that the game will feature music and chibi-style versions of popular Final Fantasy characters. Cloud and Lightning are two who are expected to make an appearance after undergoing a bit of a makeover
If you take a look at the screenshot above, you’ll understand how this game is really unlike any other Final Fantasy game you’ve ever seen or played. It actually resembles Donkey Konga.
We’ll keep you updated when we hear more information but for now, let us know what you think of the game in the comments.
