While we still have some time to go before The Witcher 3: Wild Hunt launches on February 24th, 2015, that hasn’t stopped CD Projekt Red from announcing that the title will be receiving free post-launch DLC.

The developer is planning on releasing 16 post-launch pieces of content for the game, with the first two arriving the day after The Witcher 3 releases. These first two content bundles will include the Temerian Armor Set, which will come with armor for your horse, and the Beard and Hairstyle Set for Geralt. Future content, which will be released each week until the promotion is over, will include a new outfit for Yennefer and an additional mission.

In an open letter on The Witcher website, CD Projekt Red co-founder Marcin Iwiński stressed that this promotion is open to anyone who purchases the title, regardless of what version.

As gamers, we nowadays have to hold on tight to our wallets, as surprisingly right after release, lots of tiny pieces of tempting content materialize with a steep price tag attached. Haven’t we just paid a lot of cash for a brand new game?

As CD PROJEKT RED, we strongly believe this is not the way it should work and, with The Witcher 3: Wild Hunt, we have decided to do it differently. Cutting to the chase, everyone who buys Wild Hunt will receive 16 specially prepared DLCs absolutely for free, regardless of platform.

Despite how small these content pieces end up being, I must applaud the studio for releasing all of it for free. As Iwiński pointed out, we live in an age of gaming where Season Passes and additional DLC are the norm, not the exception. So now, in order to get the full experience of a game we just paid $60 for, we need to pay even more money. There’s not much we can do about it, unfortunately, but maybe more developers will follow in CD Projekt Red’s footsteps going forward.

We will continue to have coverage of The Witcher 3: Wild Hunt in the lead-up to its February 2015 release, so stay tuned.
