At Sony’s official May State of Play presentation, which is confirmed to be going ahead, PlayStation will host an online showcase that promises to share new reveals and eye-catching updates for PS5 and PS4 titles. Just a few days away from the event’s commencement, PlayStation gamers are getting hyped for a potential The Last of Us sequel in the works, which they’re expecting to be announced on PlayStation’s Twitch and YouTube channels on May 24.
Fans are gathering in the masses with bated breath in anticipation of what Sony might have up its sleeve. It’s been a long time coming, but the general consensus is that The Last of Us Part III will be among the new releases unveiled during State of Play. There is no guarantee, by any means, but considering the immense following HBO’s live-action adaptation garnered — paired with Joel and Ellie’s adventures getting the green light for a follow-up season — it would be the opportune time for Sony to capitalize on the story’s critical and commercial success.
Well-known streamer DomTheBomb took to his Twitter to single-handedly generate so much buzz around the concept that The Last of Us fans don’t know what to do with themselves.
Somehow, not everyone is in favor of the idea.
Others are hoping for PlayStation to deliver the goods in the same way as Part II, which was just subtle enough to cause a widespread freak-out without all the theatrics of a conventional sneak preview. We have full faith in Naughty Dog to do the franchise justice, as it’s been doing for the last 10 years.
And then, there’s the matter of the Craig Mazin/Naughty Dog team-up, which hopefully gave the developer’s creative leads (including Neil Druckmann) the motivation they needed to expand the story beyond what we’ve grown accustomed to.
Regardless of whether or not State of Play presents the ideal moment to reveal Part III, there’s no doubt that, if PlayStation takes the plunge, the whole gaming community will be sent into a frenzy.
