With Season 8 already well underway, Epic Games has published a bird’s-eye view of the game’s updated map, revealing all-new locations like Sunny Steps and Lazy Lagoon. There’s also an active volcano spewing lava north of Retail Row, which certainly goes some ways to explaining the seismic activity that’s rocked the region of late.

A more thorough breakdown of patch v8.00 can be found on Epic’s dedicated site, but for now, we’ll draw your attention to the altered landscape of Fortnite, and what it means for the moment-to-moment gameplay. Indeed, we should warn you that lava “will deal 1 damage per touch and will cause players to bounce off the surface.” There is, however, the promise of volcanic vents, which will “boost players and vehicles into the sky in a gust of hot air.”

Exciting times, indeed, and here’s the Fortnite map as it currently stands:

All in all, it’s the top-right corner of the map that has undergone the biggest overhaul, given Lazy Lagoon has essentially replaced Lazy Links and the volcano has erupted from beneath the Wailing Woods, as many suspected. Other additions to Fortnite Season 8 include the Party Assist feature, which will surely relieve some of the stress associated with forming a party online. Or so says Epic Games:

  • Prior to a match, enable Party Assist on a Daily or Weekly challenge to complete it with the assistance of everyone in your party.
  • Party members are able to provide progress to the selected challenge in addition to yourself.
  • This functionality excludes “fill” players who are added into the party during matchmaking or teammates from large team modes such as Team Rumble.

Fortnite Season 8 is just getting started, and we’ll have plenty more coverage as players begin to adjust to Epic’s swashbuckling content dump.
