Capcom announced new Street Fighter V character F.A.N.G. back at the tail end of 2015, but how much do we really know about M. Bison’s new second-in-command of terrorist group Shadaloo? Besides the flamboyant dress sense and arrogant demeanour, the answer to that question is, frankly, not much.
Thankfully, Capcom released a new video on their Capcom Fighters YouTube channel yesterday that showcases the fighter’s rather toxic moveset. You’ll no doubt immediately notice how insanely fast F.A.N.G is in the video (above), but the beanstalk-shaped henchman has a far more worrying set of abilities that’ll be sure to irritate his opponents.
F.A.N.G’s V-Skill and V-Trigger – mechanics that serve a similar function to supers and Focus Attacks in Street Fighter IV – revolve entirely around the use of a poisonous substance that can be utilized as both a projectile and enveloping mist to slowly dwindle the opponent’s health down to zero.
What’s more, the projectile form of the noxious substance is completely unblockable, and will trigger its draining effect immediately on contact. Besides his infectious special attacks though, Capcom has compared F.A.N.G’s playstyle to that of Dhalsim’s, i.e. keeping opponents out of close range with superior attack range. It seems that poisoning your foes and then playing keep away to let them ‘bleed out’ – so to speak – is how you’ll want to approach each fight with him.
Street Fighter V releases February 16 on PlayStation 4 and PC, with extensive post-launch support planned in the form of additional characters and an expanded story mode, the latter of which just recently got a trailer. Be sure to check back next week for our review of 2016’s most anticipated fighter.
