Since launching back in May, Splatoon has become a fan favorite thanks to its fast and fun multiplayer action. It also doesn’t hurt that, unlike most studios, Nintendo has constantly been releasing free updates for the game. Hoping to continue the trend, the Big N announced today during their Direct presentation that another two updates will hit this month.
The first update, which went live earlier today, features 40 pieces of gear for gamers to equip. Supposedly the new gear is focused primarily on outfitting players for the blistering winter months that are now upon us. However, Nintendo also included a decent variety of bandanas to wear, which doesn’t exactly scream cold weather ready.
The second update, which will go live on November 13, is a little more substantial. A new map, named Museum D’Alfonsino, will be worked into Splatoon’s map rotation starting tomorrow. It will feature several different elements for players to learn how to use to their advantage, including rotating objects that need to be avoided.
A second map has also been announced, but Nintendo didn’t reveal when it will begin to work its way into the rotation. The Mahi Mahi Resort is a dangerous, water-filled envrionment. While submerged underwater for a majority of the match, towards the end of the contest, the water levels will lower. This will open up several new areas for players to spray, which can drastically alter the outcome of any given match.
Nintendo has announced that Splatoon will continue to see free content updates through at least January, so stay tuned for news on future updates.
