Soulcalibur: Lost Swords Is Free To Play And Coming To PSN Exclusively

Free-to-play is all the rage, so why shouldn't there be a F2P Soulcalibur? Namco must follow the same logic, as the company announced yesterday a free-to-play entry in the famed fighting series called Soulcalibur: Lost Swords.

Free-to-play is all the rage, so why shouldn’t there be a F2P Soulcalibur? Namco must follow the same logic, as the company announced yesterday a free-to-play entry in the famed fighting series called Soulcalibur: Lost Swords.

There’s not a whole lot of info on the title at this point, but there are some things we do know. The game will be exclusively available over PSN, and is expected to follow a similar pattern to Namco F2P titles that came before it, such as Tekken Revolution, Ridge Racer: Driftopia, and Ace Combat: Infinity. Of course, Namco Europe’s announcement wasn’t spurred entirely on its own – the reveal came after some scans of Lost Swords from Japan’s Weekly Famitsu made their way before the eyes of European and Western gamers.

According to Nammy itself, Soulcalibur: Lost Swords is a “free-to-play single-player experience and will feature numerous famous fighters including Siegfried and Mitsurugi.” Single player eh? Seems kind of odd, but I’m keeping an open mind. Maybe the game is designed to get people interested in Soulcalibur II HD Online? We may never know exactly what the company’s plan is, but as a free game it really just has to be fun to get people on-board. Hopefully it can pull off that basic requirement!

That’s about all we know about Soulcalibur: Lost Swords at this time, but Namco has promised that more info is imminent come Tokyo Game Show 2013. Between Dead or Alive 5 Ultimate and the upcoming AquaPazza I’m about to be knee-deep in fighters, but I’m excited to give Namco’s latest a look all the same.
