In the wake of a tumultuous holiday period for Sony and the PlayStation Network, the company has announced plans to extend the recent Flash Sale on the PlayStation Store. Initially due to end on December 29, the Flash Sale will now run until December 31.

On the other hand, the general Holiday Sale will now remain live until 12PM PT January 6. This is primarily due to a lot of pent-up demand for the reduced titles, given that the PSN remained offline for an extended period of time over the Christmas break, though it seems that Sony is also prolonging the promotion in order to appease those left frustrated by the outage.

It was on December 27th that the company confirmed that the network had returned online, though it appears as though the beleaguered service isn’t out of the woods just yet. Just yesterday, Sony changed the status of the PSN to intermittent connectivity, and addressed the issues that had primarily affected PlayStation 4 users.

Update for PS4 users: We’ve made recent updates to the network that should allow you to sign in without changing MTU settings.

Though the Holiday Sale slashes the asking price of a range of titles, it’s the Flash Sale that includes this year’s biggest releases, including the likes of Middle-earth: Shadow of Mordor, Dragon Age: Inquisition and Destiny. So, if you’ve missed the opportunity to pick up any of those aforementioned releases, then now seems like as good a time as any to play catch up. Just be sure to check out the PlayStation Store offerings before December 31.
