In what is both a smart business move and something fans will be happy to hear, Sega has announced that the upcoming pair of Sonic Boom games will have their simultaneous release date moved up to be a week earlier than before. The Wii U title Sonic Boom: Rise of Lyric and the 3DS title Sonic Boom: Shattered Crystal will now be released on November 11, as opposed to the previously-announced November 18.

The most likely reason for the change is the fact that November 18 is already set to contain some of the biggest game releases in months, such as Dragon Age: Inquisition, Far Cry 4, and the remastered Grand Theft Auto V. Having such heavy hitters all on the same day could very likely affect the attention gamers give to the Sonic Boom titles, and while there are still some big releases coming out that day, like both new Assassin’s Creed games and The Crew, this slightly earlier release may give Sega some extra time to give both titles extra exposure before more AAA releases come out.

Both Sonic Boom titles serve as companion pieces for a new TV series scheduled to debut on Cartoon Network around the same time, and will provide a new twist on established Sonic characters and locales. The Wii U game will be developed by fledgling studio Big Red Button, while Sanzaru Games will handle the 3DS version.

We will continue to keep you updated on both Sonic Boom titles as more news drops, so stay tuned!
