While Skylanders Trap Team will definitely keep and build upon previous modes from its predecessors, the upcoming newest entry in the popular series has also been confirmed to host a completely new mode, titled the “Kaos Doom Challenge.” Today, some early details have been released for those interested in knowing how the new mode works, along with the screenshot seen above and a trailer as well.
While much of the mode will still revolve around players using their collection of Skylanders characters to navigate the level and take on enemy drones, a new tower defense-like mechanic will be added, allowing for added firepower against the increasingly-difficult waves of baddies. Kaos, the main antagonist of the series, will also be involved to some extent.
Another mechanic the mode will include is titled the Mystery Box of Doom, and will apparently trigger if the player fails to make sufficient progress by a certain point. A stronger boss character will then appear, providing a greater challenge for the Skylanders.
As with every game in the series so far, Trap Team will provide full backwards compatibility with every character figure from the past three games, as well as the new Trap Masters and in-game villains that can be stored in crystals and controlled once beaten. Naturally, this rule will extend beyond the campaign and into the Kaos Doom Challenge as well.
Skylanders Trap Team will launch in North America on October 5 for Xbox One, Xbox 360, PlayStation 4, PlayStation 3, Wii U, Wii, the 3DS, and in a series first, numerous iPad, Kindle Fire, and Android tablets. We will continue to keep you updated as more details regarding the game are released.
