Grand Theft Auto V: “Torture you, I like that.”
Grand Theft Auto V was a fucking opus. It really was. It topped off the seventh generation of gaming in a perfect way, and was one of those titles that was just impossible to put down. But you knew the moment that you met the character Trevor that some very dark things were going to happen. Hell, the first time you meet him he is smashing in the brains of the main character from The Lost and the Damned DLC, which set the perfect tone for who and what he was.
And though there may have been times when Trevor went very dark, few can compare to the moment when you are in control of torturing the man you are interrogating. Though you are forced to do this, the odd part comes from the fact that we know at this point that Trevor is enjoying it. He’s a sick fuck, after all.
What was interesting about this scene is that there are multiple methods of torture you can choose from. From water boarding (the mission is called “By the Book” for a reason) to pulling out teeth and electrocution, the scene had the player grimacing as they continued to do worse and worse things to this fellow bound to a chair.
But the best part of the mission is the fact that it was, like all things in GTA, satire. It was satire of what our own government does to extract information.
It took massive balls to put that in a video game. But man, it is very, very disturbing.
