Another Sony press conference, another array of requests begging the company to implement the ability to change your ID on PlayStation Network. Having wrapped up its keynote yesterday evening local time – catch all the must-watch trailers here – Head of Worldwide Studios Shuhei Yoshida took to Twitter to address some of the pressing questions raised by fans, including that all-important sticker regarding the PSN IDs.

Starting things off short and sweet, Yoshida-san shot down any chance of Sony implementing PS3 backwards compatibility on PlayStation 4 in order to counter a similar strategy introduced by Microsoft during E3 earlier this year. It shouldn’t come as any surprise that the publisher has put off any strategy of opening up the library of last generation, as it would completely undermine PlayStation Now as a service and the $380 million acquisition of cloud computing company Gakai.

The one response to gain the most traction, however, is Yoshida’s comments regarding the fabled PSN name changes. Asked when we can expect the feature to be implement, the Sony Boss remained mum:

“We are aware that lots of people are asking for the feature,” Yoshida added. “Our engineers have been looking into what they can do. As soon as we know, we’ll let you know. But as of today, we don’t even know if we can ever do it. Hopefully we will be able to provide that feature in the future.”

What’s interesting is that a recent survey posited the ability to change your ID to the PlayStation faithful, indicating that Sony is at the very least considering the addition. Or it’s on the verge of being introduced to PlayStation 4 and Yoshida-san simply didn’t want to ruin the surprise. We can only hope!
