After already being available for download on nearly every gaming device you can buy, Shovel Knight is finally getting the retail edition that developer Yacht Club Games promised this holiday season. It will, however, come with a number of new surprises and even a few disappointments, the studio has revealed.
It turns out that porting Shovel Knight is taking a bit longer than Yacht Club Games intended and the game is now slated for an October 30th in Europe and November 3rd in North America. Furthermore, hard copies of the game will sell for $24.99, $5 more than their original asking price of $19.99, and they’ll be packaged with a free download of the game’s soundtrack, as composed by Jake Kaufman.
In not so good news, Shovel Knight is now officially in “indefinite limbo” on Xbox One thanks in part to publishing policies allegedly beyond the studio’s control. In the meantime, though, Yacht Club Games claims that a Playstation Vita retail edition is still on its way, though they have yet to set a timeframe. Similarly, a street date has yet to be set for the game’s Nintendo-exclusive amiibo figurine.
Originally released for Wii U and 3DS, Shovel Knight is currently available on Playstation 4, Playstation 3, PS Vita, Xbox One, Xbox 360, and PC for download only. We thought it was pretty fantastic ourselves, even if its DLC of Plague of Shadows didn’t quite live up to its high bar.
Tell us, have you played Shovel Knight yet? If so, what did you think of it?
