In partnership with fine art publisher Washington Green, SEGA Europe has announced plans to exhibit a collection of art pieces celebrating Sonic The Hedgehog’s 25th anniversary.

As per the press release (via VideoGamer), the exhibit will see a VIP gallery launch on December 1 at Castle Fine Art’s South Molton Street, London branch before opening to the public a day later on December 2.

Featuring an eclectic range of original works “executed through a number of mediums and creative styles,” SEGA says sculptures, paintings and “mixed media,” will be just some of the avenues artists will be exploring to celebrate the Blue Blur’s quarter-century birthday. The press release reads:

The Sonic licensing programme is already well known for its art programmes but we wanted to really push the boundaries with this project. With Washington Green we have been able to create a one-of-a-kind collection for the franchise. They have given us access to some of contemporary art’s most celebrated artists not to mention a number of new up and coming talents. The result is a collection of truly stunning and innovative works from some of the finest painters and sculptors around today.

In case you were worried that this exhibition will strictly be a case of ‘look, but don’t touch,’ don’t be: some of the original pieces on display at the show will be reproduced and sold as limited editions. What’s more, each will be hand signed by Naoto Oshima, a founding member and designer of the Sonic franchise. Each piece will be accompanied by a certificate of authenticity.

Unfortunately, this seems to be a strictly UK event, so if you’re a lifelong Sonic fan and live overseas, it might be time to book yourself a plane ticket now.
