There is no doubt that Rocksteady’s first two Batman games, Batman: Arkham Asylum and Batman: Arkham City, benefited greatly from the writing talents of Paul Dini, the producer/writer behind the Batman Animated Series. Despite the success of those games, it appears that Rocksteady has something else in mind for the rumored third installment in the franchise, as Dini has revealed that he is not writing “another Arkham game”.
Dini revealed the news on his Twitter account late last month, saying, “Kinda hoped I’d be doing another Arkham game in London during the Olympics. Esp, as I had a good source for tx. Ah, well.” He then later added, “I would [write another Arkham game] if I could, but it’s not my call.”
Naturally, this lead to a plethora of fan questions about the next Rocksteady game, which at this point is still nothing more than a rumor. Dini refused to confirm another title, and claimed that his only knowledge about a third Batman Arkham game comes from the same rumors that we have read.
The most believable rumor concerning Rocksteady’s plan for their next title comes from a Variety report, that states it will be based on the Silver Age of comics (think 1950’s-style Batman), and “revolves around Batman‘s first meeting with the Joker”. This is nothing more than speculation on our part, but Dini’s confirmation that he is not involved in the rumored project seems to back up that report.
Nothing official has been said about the next Batman Arkham game, so keep in mind that everything outside of Dini’s exact comments should be considered to be a rumor until Rocksteady says otherwise.
