Though it was initially pegged for release on June 2, Rocksteady has delayed the release of Batman: Arkham Knight by three weeks, meaning the much-anticipated threequel will make its bow on June 23.

News comes via the game’s official Twitter page, and the studio later provided a statement detailing the reason behind the postponement, and how it will ultimately lend the developing team some much needed respite as they enter the final straight.

“We’re a developer that hates to make any compromises, so we are sorry to say this means it’s going to be just a little bit longer until you can play the epic conclusion to the Arkham trilogy. As a reward for your patience and understanding, and to make the wait even more unbearable, we are pleased to whet your appetite with a new gameplay video of Batman: Arkham Knight.

“Thanks so much from everyone at Rocksteady for your continued support. We are working as hard as we can to make you proud.”

Today’s announcement marks Arkham Knight‘s second delay, after Rocksteady along with publisher Warner Bros. Interactive opted to push the sequel from its original October 14 launch date. Thankfully, this rescheduling isn’t quite as extensive, and it won’t be long now before fans of the franchise can set foot onto the crime-ridden streets of Gotham once more.

However, if a report picked up by VideoGamer is to be believed, Warner Bros. is prepping the release of a remastered compilation of Rocksteady’s critically-acclaimed series, which would bring Arkham Asylum and Arkham City to PS4 and Xbox One replete with 1080p visuals in the form of the Batman: Arkham Collection.

Crucially, such a package wouldn’t include Warner Bros. Montreal’s Origins prequel, though it’s worth noting that this compilation is yet to be formally announced. Batman: Arkham Knight will now swoop onto PS4, Xbox One and PC on June 23.
